Drawing Class

A draw is a useful shot to have in the bag. It can come in particularly useful when you are trying to avoid an obstruction such as a tree, or even if you want to punch the ball low around some trees, trying to keep it below some low-hanging branches.

It's also a good weapon for trying to get as many yards out of your drive as possible, as the ball flies lower and rolls more than a fade.

To hit a powerful draw, address position and preparation is all important. Select a club with more loft as the ball will travel further. Align yourself right of the intended target with your feet, knees, shoulders all in line. The more right you aim, the more draw spin you'll put on the ball. Keep a light grip pressure so as not to hinder your release through the ball. You want your wrists and forearms to active through the shot.

Aim the clubface at the target. Align your body right, on the line you intend to start the ball, with the ball back in your stance. Make sure you keep the backswing on the same line as your body alignment as you take the club back. Towards impact keep your hands and forearms active - you want to release your hands through the ball, much like a tennis player hitting a top-spin forehand. This will let your right hand and forearm take over the swing producing the draw. Swing through to a strong finish to make sure your hands have gone through the ball well.
